# GS2-SeasonRating API Reference

Season rating feature

Season Rating is a service that allows you to manage the rating of players in a game.
The rating is reset every season, and the rating is expressed in tiers, so that you can implement a rating system that allows players to move up to a higher tier if they achieve a certain record in the bronze tier, and to move up to a higher tier if they achieve a certain record in the silver tier.
If you can't achieve a good record in the silver tier, you may be demoted to the bronze tier.

The rating value itself is not managed by this microservice, but is processed as an experience value of GS2-Experience.
Use the range of the rank value of GS2-Experience as the index for matchmaking.

You can set the period of the season, and the rating will be reset when the season changes.

Tiers generally start at Bronze and go up through Silver, Gold, Platinum, and so on as you win more games.
To move up a tier, you play against other players in the same tier, and if your points, which vary depending on your ranking, exceed a threshold, you move up to the next tier.
If you lose the match, your points may decrease, and if your points fall below the threshold, you may move down to the previous tier.

In a rating match, matchmaking rules should in principle be composed of players within the same tier.
However, even when matchmaking includes players from the tiers above and below because of a shortage of players or other reasons, the amount of point change is determined from the minimum and maximum variation of the tier each player belongs to, together with their ranking.
There is no mechanism that grants bonus points when a player in a lower tier beats a player in a higher tier, nor the reverse.
Rather than matching players of genuinely different strength and then adjusting the point variation, we recommend designing the tier thresholds so that enough players remain in each tier to sustain gameplay.
